THAISPORA is a video podcast with the voices of the Thai and Thai diasporic community.
In mainstream media, Thai individuals are seldom featured, gaining visibility primarily in (stereotypical) contexts related to Thai food and massage. I asked myself: Why is this the case? How does the West appear from the perspective of Thai or Thai diasporic communities? How do they navigate issues like multiculturalism, discrimination, identity, intergenerational trauma, home, and a sense of belonging?
The people and stories from Thailand encompass much more than stereotypes: they are brave, creative, resilient, resourceful, queer, and postmigrant.
Hence, the THAISPORA podcast serves as a platform for the Thai and Thai diasporic community to share their diverse stories. The goal is to amplify the voices of Thai and Thai diasporic individuals, shedding light on their realities and fostering multicultural intersections.
Reviews
"Pako! I started listening to your podcast episode with the artist collective today. It's really cool to consider the topics from an artistic perspective, and the group dynamics in the episode are really nice. Whenever I listen to your podcast, I get a lot of new perspectives and food for thought." (SN)
"Through THAISPORA, I not only had the opportunity to share my story as a Luk Khrueng (an individual who is half Thai, half other ethnicity) but also learned a lot and could relate to many things through the stories of others from the Thai community. It is always nice and interesting for me to learn more about my mother's country. I hope that there will be many more episodes and that it reaches the right people, namely those who want to learn more about Thailand 🤗" (Jasmin, wanderlust_nimsaj)
